“You will not surely die,” the serpent said to the woman. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Genesis 3:4-5
Eve isn’t the only one to fall for this cunning lie of Satan. His deceit craftily made Eve feel as though she was lacking something important if she did not know good and evil.
Is ignorance of evil a bad thing?
My youngest woke up today with her mind made up that, before she went to school, she was going to download four songs from Amazon. She reminded me that she still had money on her gift card that she had gotten for her birthday. I told her that I had to look at the lyrics before she could. You can imagine how happy she was when I vetoed every single one of them.
“It’s not fair! Other kids listen to these songs! Why can’t I?”
Because what my sweet girl does not fully understand yet, as my sin in this area has taught me, is how those subliminal messages of immoral or ungodly behavior get stuck in her mind, opening her thoughts to things that God would not want her to dwell on.
Ignorance is more than bliss when we obey God knowing that He only has our best at heart in what He says no to in our lives.
